Fermín Lasala y Collado

Fermín Lasala y Collado (born July 17, 1830 in San Sebastián , † 1917 in Madrid ) was a Spanish entrepreneur, politician and diplomat.

Life

His father was Fermín de Lasala y Urbieta . Lasala studied law and became a lawyer. He was a shareholder in Ferrocarril Madrid-Irún .

He began his political career in 1854 with the Partido Progresista as a member of the Cortes. In 1856 he became a member of the Unión Liberal . He refused to recognize the principles of the September 1868 revolution and did not vote for Amadeo I , but later recognized him as king when the republic was proclaimed. He was a member of the constituent assemblies of Burgos and San Sebastian. In 1879, under the presidency of Antonio Cánovas del Castillo , he became Minister of Education. After the dissent between Antonio Maura Montaner and Eduardo Dato , he was appointed chairman of the State Council.

In the 1860s he bought the land from " Cristina Enea ", in Donostia, to build a palace in a park. Lasala was the Spanish ambassador to Paris in 1890 and 1895 . He became a senator for life.

In 1884 he married Cristina Bruneti de los Cobos y Villanueva and became Deputy President of the Senate.

Lasala was buried in the Cementerio de Polloe in Donostia. He left no offspring, but a library with 18,000 volumes and the Cristina Enea Park .
