Fermi movement

The Fermi motion is the motion of the nucleons (protons and neutrons) within atomic nuclei .

According to the Fermigas model of atomic nuclei, protons and neutrons move freely in a potential well , taking into account the Pauli principle . Its depth is typically 40 MeV. In the basic state of the nucleus, the nucleons adopt energy states between typically −40 MeV and −7 MeV; one can therefore ascribe energies of up to 33 MeV ( Fermi energy ) to them, which corresponds to an impulse of up to approx. 250 MeV / c. The corresponding movement is called the Fermi movement.
