IEEE Jun-ichi Nishizawa Medal
In 2002 the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) introduced a new honor to their already existing program of honors. Since 2004, one or more candidates have been awarded a medal in the name of Jun-ichi Nishizawa every year. This is considered to be the father of Japanese microelectronics . Nishizawa was a professor, director of two research institutes and the 17th President of Tōhoku University , Sendai , Japan. He made contributions to important innovations for components in the fields of optical communication and semiconductors , such as laser and PIN diodes and static induction thyristors for high-voltage systems.
This IEEE medal is awarded annually to candidates who work in the fields of Material and Device Technology .
This honor is sponsored by the Federation of Electric Power Companies, Japan.
