Fernando Q. Gouvêa

Fernando Quadros Gouvêa (born November 13, 1957 ) is a Brazilian mathematician who deals with number theory.

Gouvea obtained his mathematics diploma from the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME) of the University of Sao Paulo and received his PhD in 1987 from Harvard University with Barry Mazur ( Arithmetic of p-adic modular forms ). He then taught at the University of Sao Paulo and Queen's University in Kingston (Ontario) and is a professor at Colby College in Waterville (Maine) .

In 1995 he received the Lester Randolph Ford Award .
