Fernando Sánchez Marcos (* 1943 in Ávila , Spain ) is a historian who specializes in the historiography and history of the historical culture of the modern age.

biography

He completed his studies in Madrid and Barcelona. He received his doctorate in philosophy and history in 1973 from the University of Barcelona (UB) with a dissertation in Catalonia and the central government according to the Guerra dels Segadors (1652-1679) under the direction of Valentín Vázquez de Prada .

Since 1967 he has been a professor at the emerging faculty of philosophy and history of Palma de Mallorca (UB). In 1977 he moved to the Department of Modern History in the Faculty of Geography and History (UB). He is a professor emeritus for modern history at the UB.

Between 2002 and 2013, together with Joan Lluís Palos Peñarroya, he directed the master's degree in history and cultural communication, which trained students from more than 30 different countries.

He was Vice President of the Spanish Foundation for Modern History. He is a member of the International Commission for Theory and History of Historiography (CICH), whose office he was from 1990 to 1999, as well as of the online advisory board of FilmHistoria. It helped promote the birth of Pedralbes. Modern History Magazine.

In 2009 he founded and has operated the bilingual web portal Culturahistorica.org, which is the leader in historiography, history theory and historical culture in the Hispanic world. The portal contains both informative content (about the historical cinema, the historical novel and the images that shaped history) as well as texts by top scientists such as Hayden White, Peter Burke, Carlo Ginzburg, François Dosse, Antony Beevor and Frank Ankersmit.

In 2013 the book A Returns to the Past was published in Edicions of the University of Barcelona. History, memory and life in honor of Fernando Sánchez Marcos, in which the historians Georg G. Iggers, Frank Ankersmit and Jörn Rüsen took part.
