The Unidad Ejecutora del Programa Ferroviario Provincial (UEPFP), ( German  "executive unit of the provincial railway program" ), is a railway company in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires . The company advertises itself and its performance under the name Ferrobaires . The company operates numerous regional and long-distance services from the Argentine capital Buenos Aires to the surrounding province and is based at the Plaza Constitución train station .

history

After the Argentine government under Carlos Menem had decided to privatize the Argentine railway network, the state company Ferrocarriles Argentinos was dissolved March 10, 1993. Since it was foreseeable that a large part of the train services would disappear throughout the country, the government of the province of Buenos Aires founded its own railway company on January 13, 1993 by resolution of the provincial parliament in order to be able to continue to offer at least the mileage within the province. The company called Unidad Ejecutora del Programa Ferroviario Provincial - known to the public as Ferrobaires - then took over the transport services of the state-owned company within the province.

Originally, the company was founded to offer the service on a transitional basis until it was taken over by a private operator. Since this has not happened, the provincial government plans to continue operating.

Since 2006, the transport company has had to deal with numerous problems with the maintenance of the rolling stock, which has led to numerous train cancellations, delays and accidents. After numerous negotiations with the national government, both sides signed a contract on February 8, 2007 to transfer the train service to federal government. To date, however, this has not happened and the company's problems remain unresolved.
