Prefabricated bath

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prefabricated bathrooms are industrially prefabricated, self-supporting sanitary room units that consist of the floor, the walls and the ceiling . This includes the finished wall linings, the complete sanitary equipment as well as the corresponding horizontal supply and disposal lines up to the respective shaft area. Colloquially, “wet cells” or sanitary cells are also used.

In building construction , they are particularly used in clinics and hospitals, hotels and guest houses, retirement and nursing homes and other residential complexes such as student dormitories or correctional facilities. In shipbuilding, prefabricated bathrooms can be installed in cruise ships, container ships and cargo ships as well as in luxury yachts and offshore platforms.

Systems and construction methods

A basic distinction is made between four systems and different construction methods in prefabricated bathroom construction .

Construction methods of prefabricated bathrooms
Assembly of an elementary prefabricated bathroom

Prefabricated bathrooms are divided into different types of construction depending on the wall construction chosen by the manufacturer:

  • Concrete construction
  • GRP construction
  • Mixed construction

Compact design

When modernizing in a compact design, the prefabricated bathrooms are completely assembled and delivered to the construction site pre-assembled. The bathroom element is inserted from the side into the building that is open on an outer wall or from above, if there is no floor slab (new building), and brought to the desired position on the respective level.

Elementary construction

When modernizing existing building units, the prefabricated bathrooms to be retrofitted can be used both in a modular design and in one piece, compact and ready for use with a crane. With the modular construction method, the wall, floor and ceiling parts are delivered ready- tiled to the construction site, where they are then assembled, equipped and connected to the supply and disposal elements. The customer receives a ready-to-use bathroom.

Tower constructions

Self-supporting, self-contained prefabricated bathroom tower elements are assembled from the outside on an existing facade and at the height of the desired storeys to form towers. The floor plan of the tower elements is designed so that the supply and disposal lines are connected through the building. In this way, two rooms on each floor can be connected to a tower element.

Special constructions for the modernization of existing bathrooms

When it comes to modernization projects, people don't think about working with prefabricated bathrooms as often as they do with new buildings. But here, too, there are calculation advantages due to the much faster completion of the measure and thus earlier use. If, for example, a hospital ward is to be renewed, the use of prefabricated bathrooms alone will cover a significant proportion of the costs for the new bathrooms, compared to conventional measures, from earlier income.
