The NESAT - North European Symposium for Archaeological Textiles (German: Nordeuropäisches Symposium für Archäologische Textilien ) is a conference for the research and publication of archaeological textiles from northern European finds .

NESAT was founded in 1981 under the leadership of the textile archaeologists Klaus Tidow (Germany) and Lise Bender Jørgensen (Denmark) and is aimed at archaeologists, historians , conservators and craftsmen who deal with all aspects of northern European textiles from archaeological finds. The focus is on the technical analysis and reproduction of textile finds. The NESAT conferences are held every three years at different locations in Europe and have the purpose of discussing previously unpublished findings and publishing them in the conference proceedings. The first conference was organized in 1981 by the Textile Museum Neumünster .

The 10th anniversary conference NESAT X was hosted from May 13th to 18th, 2008 by the CTR - Center for Textile Research of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen . More than 120 participants, including many young researchers, from 23 nations took part in this conference. This corresponds to almost a doubling of the number of participants compared to the previous NESAT IX conference in 2005. Due to the steadily increasing number of international participants at the previous conferences, German was replaced by English as the main language at the conferences.

The last NESAT XII conference took place in Hallstatt in May 2014 . The next NESAT XIII conference will take place from May 22-26 , 2017 in Liberec , Czech Republic.
