Solid shampoo

solid shampoo with packaging

Solid shampoo is used to clean the scalp hair. In contrast to conventional shampoos in plastic bottles, there is no need for plastic packaging due to its solid shape.

application

Washing your hair with a solid shampoo is carried out in the same way as washing your hair with a liquid shampoo. In contact with water, the solid shampoo creates foam, which can be evenly distributed in the hair with the hands. The foam is then washed out thoroughly.

ingredients

Ingredients of a solid shampoo according to INCI

Solid shampoo is a conventional shampoo that has mainly had its water removed. While the main component of liquid shampoo is water, solid shampoo uses a solid base, e.g. B. Starch ( Triticum Vulgare Starch ). The surfactants used are fatty acid derivatives, including the sodium salts of long-chain sulfonic acids ( Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate ) and sodium cocoyl isethionate ( Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate ). Coconut oil ( Cocos Nucifera Oil) makes the hair soft and shiny . It also has a pleasant coconut scent.

advantages

Because the shampoo is solid, there is no need for plastic packaging (usually a plastic bottle). This makes solid shampoos much more environmentally friendly and helps to reduce plastic in everyday life. Many companies also do without problematic ingredients such as silicone, parabens and aggressive surfactants.

Difference to hair soap

There are differences between solid shampoo and hair soaps.

Hair soap

The production of hair soap is carried out in the same way as a conventional sodium soap ( curd soap ). By saponification are vegetable oils (eg. B. coconut oil ) with sodium hydroxide solution in sodium soap ( sodium salts of fatty acids ) and glycerol disassembled. When using hair soaps, limescale deposits ( lime soap ) can form, especially when using hard water. Therefore, after cleaning with the hair soap, a so-called “acid rinse”, consisting of water and apple cider vinegar, should be rinsed. Furthermore, hair soap does not foam as intensely as liquid shampoo.

Solid shampoo

In the production of a solid shampoo, all ingredients are mixed together, formed into small portions at low temperatures and dried. When using it, there is usually no lime soap , which is why an acidic rinse does not have to be used. A solid shampoo creates a similar amount of foam as a liquid shampoo.
