Feuars Arms
The Feuars Arms is a restaurant in the Scottish town of Kirkcaldy in the Council Area Fife . In 1979 the building was included in the Scottish list of monuments as an individual monument, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 2008.
history
At first there was a grain mill built in 1859. The Feuars Arms was built in 1890 as an inn for Andrew Stewart . Fragments of the older mill were integrated into the new building. The name "Feuars Arms" is probably derived from the Society of Feuars , which collected taxes for the Oswald family (see also Path House ). In 1902 it was redesigned based on a design by local architect William Williamson . Numerous original works have been preserved in the interior.
description
The two-story corner house is at the confluence of Bogies Wynd with Commercial Street . It has an L-shaped floor plan. On the ground floor, the masonry of the Art Nouveau building consists of red sandstone blocks . On the upper floor, on the other hand, the masonry is colored and embossed , with details also made of red sandstone. The rear facades are plastered with Harl . The cornice is continued over the cantilevered bay window with a crenellated parapet that protrudes from the corner . A round arched niche is let in below the bay window. The hatchings are suspected to be segment-arched . Eight and twelve-part lattice windows are installed. The glasses in the wide restaurant windows on the ground floor are decorated with ornaments. The final roof is covered with slate.
