A fire starter , more rarely also a spark steel , is a handy device that is used to ignite a fire. Modern fire starters are mostly on a magnesium block . They are preferred in the military as well as in survival and outdoor areas.

features

Fire starters are insensitive to moisture and wetness, which is a great advantage over other lighters. Magnesium also reaches an extremely high temperature (over 2000 ° C). This makes it much easier to ignite a flame than it is with a conventional flint.

handling

Chips are scraped off the magnesium with a knife . These are then ignited by sparks that are generated with a knife or other sharp-edged object on the fire starter.
