Ensembles

Ensemble old town Mainbernheim

The former imperial village , pledged to the Crown of Bohemia in 1367, received city rights in 1382 and was fortified by a wall in the following period. Nevertheless, Mainbernheim retained the character of a village settlement. The place has an approximately long rectangular circumference and is traversed in the longitudinal axis by a main road stretched between two city gates. The main street has a slight bend in its middle, from which some cross streets branch off in a star shape; the resulting, square-like extension of the street is emphasized by the city fountain. The side streets run across the street. The church district is to the north, away from the main road. The development of the main street (Herrnstraße) consists of a row of large farms, some of which face the street with their residential buildings facing the street, partly on the eaves and partly on the gable. In the first case the long fronts are characterized by wide entrance gates, in the second the gable façades are connected by courtyard walls in which the courtyard portals are attached. Most of the houses date from the 17th / 18th centuries. Century and have half-timbered upper floors, often under plaster, or from the middle of the 19th century and are built in rubble masonry. In the northern part of the main street, the gable front of the town hall has a decisive effect; the two gate towers that form the endings are also important for the street scene. On the long side of the town hall, a rising square extends to the portal front of the parish church. In the side streets there is a loose development of small farms and craftsmen's houses, mixed with farm buildings and barns. Boundaries: city wall including the moat zone. File number: E-6-75-144-1.

After the city elevation in 1382, Mainbernheim was surrounded by walls and moats. The wall, with formerly 27 round and semicircular fortification towers, 21 of which have survived, has been preserved in its entire course, with the exception of two openings, some of which are still in full. The gate towers of the Upper and Lower Gate border the Herrnstrasse. File number D-6-75-144-1. Starting at the lower gate, the following objects of the city wall have been preserved in a clockwise direction.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
