Ensembles
Ensemble Altstadt Volkach
The ensemble ( location ) encompasses the area of the city within its walling line, which dates back to the 13th century, as well as parts of the wall foreground in the west (Hindenburgallee) and north (gardens of the Storchgasse property on Volkachbach), as far as the early Biedermeier dissolution of the fortification belt in gardens can still be seen there is. In the course of the early Middle Ages, Volkach detached itself from the overarching context of the Franconian royal estate Prosselsheim / Vogelsburg, became independent and in the High Middle Ages, under the aegis of the Counts of Castell, consolidated into an urban community (referred to as civitas in 1258). The high terrace above the confluence of the Volkachbach in the Main offered a favorable settlement area. The urban area, bordered by the line of fortifications from the 13th century, develops along the main street parallel to the Main; Cross and secondary axes are not established (the cross connection bridge / Spitalstraße was not created until the bridge was built in 1892), which is related to the fact that the historically important river crossings were not in Volkach, but in Fahr and Escherndorf / Nordheim. Volkach therefore presents itself as a purely two-gate town, the task of distributing the routes is taken over by the suburbs spreading out in front of the gates. The original cell of the settlement is the district delimited by the city wall, the Oberen Hauptstrasse and the market square, in which the parish church is located; Here the Franconian Fronhof of the early period is accepted and the city lords resided (from 1328 partly, from 1510 completely the diocese of Würzburg ). The adjoining section of Obere Hauptstrasse was where the merchants settled . The extensive settlement area, which extends around a cross-shaped lane (Kreuzgasse) and a spacious square (Gänseplatz) east of Untere Hauptstraße, was originally the district of the Hörigen, which over time developed into the living space of craftsmen and small winegrowers. This settlement structure and the associated social gradient can still be seen clearly in the parceling: large courtyards are lined up along the main street, in the area around Kreuzgasse there is a conglomerate of smaller properties. The regulation of the market square, which opens roughly in the middle section of the main street, took place with the construction of the town hall in the 16th century. The development of the alleys with low small houses following the course of the former city wall was created after the abandonment of the Zwinger around 1800. The closed, historical development of the town reflects the architectural development in the Würzburg area uninterrupted, the highlights of which set the accents in the cityscape: the late Gothic is emerging in the parish church, the beginning of the renaissance in the town hall , the style of the Julius Echter period in the former tithe courtyard and the former district court, the baroque and rococo in many wine farms and town houses on the main street and in some side streets. Eaves side and gable fronts alternate, curved gables and mansard roofs characterize the roof landscape. The quarter around Kreuzgasse and Gänseplatz, which burned down in 1804, still bears the stamp of its reconstruction time in residential buildings, some of which are perceived as neighbourhood, but mostly show a Biedermeier character. Franconian half-timbered houses appear sporadically. The small house development in the side streets has often already been modernized. Boundaries: Rear property boundaries from Storchgasse 1–25 (odd numbers) and Am Zeilitzheimer Tor in the course of the Volkachbach - rear property boundaries from Untere Zwingergasse 8, 6, 4 Sackgasse 8, Weinstrasse 21, Mittlere Zwingergasse 18-2 (even numbers), Gänseplatz 3 , 5, Obere Zwingergasse 22, 20, 18, Spitalstrasse 18, Obere Zwingergasse 14–2 (even numbers), in the course of the former city wall - rear property boundaries from Obere Markt 12, Bahnhofstrasse Hindenburgallee to the war memorial - rear property boundaries from Grabengasse 29, 31 , 33, in the course of the former city wall. File number: E-6-75-174-1.
Ensemble town center Escherndorf
The wine-growing village ( location ) develops along the main street parallel to the Main. In the center of the village, the access roads to the ferry and the road to Volkach create a crossroads where the parish church is located. The development consists of vineyards, the houses of which are mostly on the gable side. The houses date from the 19th century or have been renovated, some buildings date from the 17th / 18th centuries. Century back. Boundary: An der Steige 2, Astheimer Strasse 1–44, Bocksbeutelstrasse 1–40, 42, 44, 46, Pfarrgasse 2. File number: E-6-75-174-2.
Ensemble blossom road Fahr
The main street of the village ( location ) is flanked by mostly two-storey gabled and eaves summer houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Century, often with half-timbering. Boundary: Blumenstrasse 1–14, 16, 18, 20, Maingasse 5, 14. File number: E-6-75-174-3.
Volkach city fortifications
The city fortifications consisting of a moat, a kennel and a wall were built in the 14th and 15th centuries. Created in the 16th century, supplemented and improved in the 16th and 17th centuries. Remnants of the wall are visible on the western side, mostly built on the eastern side. The two gate towers that complete the main street date from the 16th century. File number: D-6-75-174-3. Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
