history

Elgersheim was founded in the 7th or 8th century as a royal estate of the Franconian rulers. From the 10th century, changing monasteries and noble families ruled the estate before it was assigned to the Steigerwaldkloster Ebrach in the 12th century . In 1340 the monastery also received jurisdiction over Elgersheim. The monks also set up an administrative district in the courtyard .

With the secularization , the parish of the property was assigned to the community of Fahr, which was in the district of Volkach . In 1821 the town of Volkach received the buildings and set up a retirement home in them, the benefactors were looked after by nuns. It was not until 1954 that the facility was dissolved and the buildings leased.

Attractions

The Elgersheimer Hof forms the center of the district. The Hofgut presents itself as a two-storey half - hipped roof , which was built from plastered quarry stone masonry . It was created in its current form in the early 18th century. The outbuildings are to be assigned to the 17th century, a wall ring surrounds the property.

Quarry ponds can be found in the immediate vicinity . The nature reserve Sandgrasheiden at Elgersheimer Hof was designated in 1986.
