Ziegelhütte (desert, Escherndorf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ziegelhütte is a desert in the area of the Volkach district of Escherndorf . In 1888 the brickworks was named as an independent district ( wasteland ) of Escherndorf.

Geographical location

The location of the brickworks is unclear, because today there are probably no remains of the former district to be seen. The only reference to the Einödhof in 1888 speaks of a distance of 0.5 km from the Johanneskirche in Escherndorf. Two places give evidence of the former brickworks. In the east of the municipality of Escherndorf there is still a single courtyard that houses an inn. On the other, today Nordheimer Main side , the brick meadows are a parcel . The Volkach-Nordheim military training area, which has since been abandoned, is located there .

history

The Escherndorfer Ziegelhütte was the place where bricks were burned for building houses. Similar to its Krautheim counterpart , the Escherndorfer Hütte will have been under the rule of the village, in this case the Bishopric of Würzburg , in the time before the secularization . The hut appeared once as a wasteland in the Bavarian list of localities from 1888. It was assigned to the parish of Escherndorf and at that time had two residents who cultivated a vineyard.

Although the brickworks no longer appeared as an independent district, it still existed. This is indicated by a photograph from 1910 in the Volkach city archive with the signature "Einkehr in der Escherndorfer Ziegelhütte (1910)". There was probably an inn or a hedge tavern serving wine in the premises of the former brick kiln.
