Live and act

Lukas Anton was the second son of the sculptor Jakob van der Auwera (1672–1760) and his wife Maria Christine, a daughter of the painter Oswald Onghers . Almost nothing is known about his youth and his apprenticeship. Since the father considered the brothers Johann Georg Wolfgang , Lukas Anton and Johann Michael Joseph to be a praeceptor , he was probably particularly concerned about the upbringing of his children. Lukas Anton received his first training most likely in his father's workshop. External further training cannot be proven. From 1736 (1749–1750 and 1751–1755) the two brothers were together. On February 7, 1744, Lukas Anton married Magdalena Holtzer. The marriage had six children.

He was not appointed court sculptor until the 1740s. 1746 had Balthasar Neumann built for him a house in today Theaterstraße 4 to which after the destruction of the building 1945 was installed by Lukas van der Auwera created Madonna. Lukas Anton was in every respect in the shadow of his big brother Johann Georg Wolfgang. He was two years older than Lukas and seems to have influenced him a lot. Lukas Anton died on November 12, 1766 at the age of 56 in Würzburg.
