The crucifixion group next to the church

The crucifixion group next to the Mauritius Church in Wiesentheid , Lower Franconia, is a monumental execution of the Passion of Christ. It is located to the right of the church, on the wall of the rectory and forms an important element of the Wiesentheid Castle ensemble .

history

The crucifixion group goes back to a foundation. Johann Georg Neßfell , the court carpenter of the Wiesentheider counts, gave the money for the group of figures (inscription on the right base of the figures: "Gestifft / von / Johann Georg Nesphel / Cunst Schreiner / in / Wiesentheid"). The execution of the sandstone construction was the responsibility of Lukas Anton van der Auwera from Würzburg , who had also worked on the crucifixion group in nearby Escherndorf. (Inscription on the right base of the figure: "Made / by / Lucas vd Auwera / Hoff-Bilthauer / in Würzburg.").

The establishment took place in 1766. This is evidenced by another inscription in the base of the figure on the left: "Aufgericht / under / government / Franz Bonaventura / grafens / Von Schönborn ". The group of figures underwent further changes in 1848 when the Deppisch couple from Wiesentheid had them renovated. The crucifixion group is registered as a monument and is classified by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation under the number D-6-75-178-38.
