Frank-Ritter-Strasse 18 (Astheim)
The house at Frank-Ritter-Straße 18 (also called Kleudgenhaus ) is a listed building in the Volkach district of Astheim . In the 20th century, the building was the seat of the so-called Ritter'schen Foundation for a long time . The building is centrally located in the old town of Astheim.
history
The building was erected in the 18th century and initially occupied by several private individuals. The elaborate decoration of the façade suggests that only wealthy Astheim citizens lived in the house. The builders of the building may be found in the vicinity of the Marienbrück Charterhouse . After the abbey was dissolved, the house came into the possession of the Kleudgen family, who gave the building its name until the 20th century.
In 1910, the American-German entrepreneur Frank Ritter, a native of Astheim, began to think about a foundation for an old people's home in town. Initially it was planned to build the Pründnerhaus at the end of the village. It was not until 1913 that Frank Ritter acquired the house in the center of the village and had it converted into a retirement home and a custody facility for small children with the donation money . In 1915, on April 13th, the kindergarten was ready for use.
Two sisters of the Dillingen Franciscan Sisters had been recruited to look after the children . In 1916 the outbuilding of the house was converted into an infirmary , which in turn was occupied by a Franciscan. In 1917, Ursula Kohlhaupt, the first beneficiary, moved into the old people's home. In 1915, 28 children were still cared for in kindergarten, but the foundation reached its first high point in 1927 with 50 children.
The daughter of the founder Frank Ritter, Adelina Shumway, tried to continue the work of her father after the First World War . In 1929 she had the water pipes in the building replaced. During the Second World War there were several billets in the building. In 1944 the nephew of the founder, chief engineer Ritter, fled from Berlin to Astheim after the bombing of his house and found accommodation in the building.
In 1952, the last pründner of the old people's home died and the foundation then concentrated only on the kindergarten. In 1961 the nurses' station in the adjoining building had to close due to a lack of staff. In the same year the house was sold to private individuals and the kindergarten moved to the old elementary school behind the Carthusian Church. The Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments runs the house at Frank-Ritter-Straße 18 as a monument .
description
The main building presents itself as an eaves building from the 18th century. The hipped roof building is two-story, the floors are also externally separated from each other by a cornice. All windows have drilled frames. The auxiliary building was built in the same century as the main building, but is only formed by one storey. It also has a deep-drawn hip roof. Both buildings are enclosed with a wall.
The altar niche that was attached to the facade of the main building is also a special feature. It has a rococo frame. Two tapering columns frame the figure of St. Wendelin , who carries a lamb over his shoulder. Above that, a plastic angel's head was attached, which is surmounted by a figure of Immaculata on the globe. The niche is crowned by two vases on the left and right.
