Leienfels is a district of the town of Pottenstein in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth in northern Bavaria .

Geography and transport links

Leienfels is located in the southwest of the municipality, 7.5 kilometers southwest of the core town of Pottenstein. The community-free area Waidacher Forst lies between the district of Leienfels, which largely coincides with the earlier municipality, and the rest of today's municipality . State road  2163 runs east of the village, federal road 2 to the south-east .

history

Until the municipal reform , Leienfels was a municipality in what was then the Pegnitz district . Districts were next to the main town Graisch , Soranger and Weidenhüll near Leienfels . On May 1, 1978 it was incorporated into Pottenstein.

The Leienfels castle ruins are located about 100 meters northwest of the outskirts on the 590  m high Schlossberg .
