Ensembles
Ensemble old town Pottenstein
The settlement ( Lage ) that emerged after the castle was elevated to a town at the beginning of the 14th century. The dominant castle complex and the city at its feet form a coherent whole, as the common, largely preserved surrounding wall shows. The city plan is based on a T-shaped street structure. In the area of the market square, Fischergasse branches off from the main street that runs from east to west. In keeping with this basic shape, the city originally had three gates that are no longer available today. Both streets are accompanied by closed rows of deep, gabled houses built plots. The town houses of the 18th and 19th centuries, mostly half-timbered over the bricked ground floor. Century - in the Fischergasse in a staggered arrangement - result in impressive street scenes. The few new buildings that have been added are in most cases adapted in terms of scale. Due to the hillside location at the northern foot of the castle hill, the houses on the southern row in the main street are slightly elevated and can be reached in some cases via stairs. The church district is directly connected to the main street: the elevated church turns its long side towards the street. To the south it is framed by the parish, sacristan and cantor's house. File number: E-4-72-179-1.
city wall
The core of Pottenstein's city wall was built in the 14th century and is still partially preserved. The east-west facing oval Bering was provided with gatehouses on Bayreuther Straße and at both ends of Hauptstraße until the early 19th century. Between the former upper gate and the castle behind the houses Hauptstrasse 42–18 (even numbers) and Kirchplatz 6 remains of a wall has been preserved from then on. The northeast wall line between the former Oberer Tor and the former Pfistertor, now between the houses Hauptstrasse 43 and Fischergasse 16, is still up to four meters high and has loopholes. Between the former Pfister Gate and the former Unterer Tor, only two sections of the wall at Fischergasse 11 between the brewery and Hauptstraße 7 have been preserved. File number: D-4-72-179-1.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
