The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority. This list reflects the update from March 3, 2015 and contains 110 monuments.
Ensembles
Ensemble Kirchhügel / Rathausplatz / Obere Marktstrasse
The ensemble ( location ) includes the church hill and the town hall square below, which was formerly the school square, with the upper market rising in a south-westerly direction. Of the three former castles, only the Upper Castle at Am alten Schloss 1 has survived, but there is still a moat to the west of the church from the old castle on the church hill. The lower tower floors come from a new church that was built around the middle of the 15th century in place of a castle chapel. Today's Evangelical Lutheran parish church received its spire in 1710 and its nave in 1770. At the same time as this new nave was built in 1770, most of the houses in the market town were destroyed by fire. The reconstruction was probably carried out according to plans and guidelines of the princely building authority of Bayreuth, which were decisive until the middle of the 19th century. All of them are two-story sandstone cuboid buildings with hipped or mansard roofs. The course of the upper market, which is probably systematized at the same time, only has a slight north-westerly deviation at the junction with Alte Bayreuther Straße. The town hall square is closed on its north side by a school building from 1909 that has been adapted to the other houses, today town hall. Important elements of the townscape are three granite fountains from the middle of the 19th century on the corner of Gurtstein / Kantorsgasse, on the bulge of the Upper Market and at the junction of Alte Bayreuther Straße. File number: E-4-72-199-1.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
