Synagogue (Tüchersfeld)

The synagogue in Tüchersfeld , a district of Pottenstein in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth ( Bavaria ), was built after 1760. The profaned synagogue in the former Judenhof is a protected architectural monument .

history

The synagogue building, which has been preserved to this day, was built after the fire of 1760. It served the Jewish community as a place of worship until around 1865/70. The building was then used for other purposes.

description

The structure of the synagogue building was essentially preserved: the staircase, doors, windows, traces of the Torah shrine and the ceiling. The women's prayer room has also been preserved. The men's seats are indicated by painted backrests on the walls. An oval with a central sun adorns the front wall and points in a south-easterly direction to Jerusalem .

Todays use

The former synagogue has been in use since the 1980s as part of the Franconian Switzerland Museum set up in the buildings of the Judenhof .
