reception

The album received mostly good reviews. Allmusic , for example, wrote that the band sounded “more vital and musical than ever” and awarded 4.5 out of 5 stars. In contrast, Andy Gill rated the album in the Independent with only 3 out of 5 stars. It is "both hypnotically appealing and cacophonically repulsive."
