"This Is Our Punk-Rock," Thee Rusted Satellites Gather + Sing, is the title of an album by the Canadian post-rock band The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band with Choir . It was released on September 25, 2003 in Europe and a week later worldwide by Constellation Records .

Overview

An amateur choir consisting of a few dozen friends and colleagues was put together for this album. The album's liner notes contain a page of the score from the first song on the album (the "Fasola" part).

This album was produced as a requiem for open and empty spaces in Montreal , the hometown of Silver Mt. Zion . However, the Requiem does not refer only to Montreal, but to similar losses and similar decay around the world, be it due to gentrification , urban city politics, social change or military actions.

Reviews

James Mason wrote on allmusic .com: "The first song Sow Some Lonesome Corner So Many Flowers Bloom maneuvers the group out of the shadow of Godspeed You! Black Emperor [ the mother band ] and gives them a face of their own. [...] This Is Our Punk-Rock is the most satisfying and rewarding album that A Silver Mt. Zion have delivered to date. " Nevertheless, he gave the record only 3.5 out of 5 points.

Amanda Petrusich on Pitchfork Media praised the orchestral sound and the political background of the record, but criticized the irritating scope ( pretentiousness ) of the band. They awarded the plate 7.4 out of 10 points.
