location

The hamlet is located in the Franconian Switzerland in a forest clearing, just under 6.5 km southwest of Pottenstein and close to the community-free area Waidacher Forst .

history

Soranger was first mentioned in 1577 as one of the border points of the Kirchenbirkiger Weiden. A settlement there can only be assumed for 1795 with certainty; During this time, the place was referred to as "belonging" to the Gößweinstein office . At that time the place should have consisted of four houses. The place name means "swampy meadow"; it is based on the word "Sor" (= swamp water).

The district of the former municipality of Leienfels was incorporated into Pottenstein together with its main town in 1978 as part of the municipal reform.
