history

The place name suggests an origin around the year 1000 and means something like "Gismars Hof" or colloquially "Gaasmoos", a Franconian mixed beer drink. Geusmanns is first mentioned around the 15th and 16th centuries. Century, at that time the place belonged to Fraisch Pottenstein. It is possible that Geusmanns is identical to a “Judmars” mentioned in 1295. A “Hof von Jusmar” also belonged to the Tüchersfeld office in 1348, but was deserted at that time. Perhaps that is why there is so little information about the history of the place. In 1801, Geusmanns consists of 3 houses and 2 barns.

There has been a parish fair among the villagers in Neu-Geusmanns for 10 years. The fame of the parish fair now extends to the USA, z. B. Dexter City, OH. The hallmark of the parish fair is the colorfully illuminated parish fair tree, which is erected every year by the able villagers.

The district of the former municipality of Elbersberg was incorporated into Pottenstein together with its main town in 1978 as part of the municipal reform.
