Altenhof is a district of the town of Pottenstein in the Bayreuth district . Today it has no residents and belonged to the former municipality of Elbersberg . The place is about four kilometers southeast of Pottenstein.

history

In a description of the bishopric of Bamberg from 1801, Altenhof reported that it consisted of two courtyards, two estates with houses and barns and a mill, the Mittelmühle. Originally there was probably only a single property, since relatively young place names combined with the suffix -hof only referred to a single courtyard. Altenhof appeared again and again in historical sources since the 15th century, for the first time in 1409. In 1959, the Altenhof was sold to the Bavarian state, which two years later set up the forest supervision that had been located in the Mittelmühle.

The Klumpertal with Altenhof and Mittelmühle is one of the most beautiful hiking areas in Franconian Switzerland . Altenhof is used as a youth campsite for the city of Pottenstein.
