Fire Brigade Rescue Delete Bergen is a national specialist magazine for the fire brigade , fire protection and rescue service sectors . The magazine is also a newsletter for the state fire brigade associations of Brandenburg, Bremen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony and Thuringia. It is published ten times a year by Huss-Medien GmbH in Berlin.

history

Until the publication of an independent magazine for the fire brigades and for those involved in fire protection in the GDR, articles were published in the magazine “Die Volkspolizei”, the first edition of which was printed in March 1948. In September 1951 the first issue of “Our Fire Protection” appeared as the only magazine for fire protection in the GDR. It remained so until the fall of 1990.

The editorial team had a group of correspondents in the areas of fire services and fire protection. The number of copies was kept high by obtaining deposit copies that were ordered and paid for by companies and institutions, by the local organs. The readers of the magazine were mainly members of the volunteer fire brigades . Despite a political "red thread" (which made up about 1/3 of each issue volume), "Unser Brandschutz" (also called "UB" for short) developed into the specialist journal for fire protection in the GDR as well as an internationally recognized specialist journal. It reported on the latest results in the development of fire fighting technology and tactics from the GDR and the socialist states. The experience of fire brigades in fighting fires and disasters was presented.

From 1968 to 1984 the magazine organized a nationwide long-distance competition for all firefighters. The "three-way fight of the fire brigades" could be carried out in all age groups with little effort with the equipment available in the fire brigades. The competition was carried out over qualification levels in the districts and districts up to the three-way national championships. The monthly price of the subscription was 0.50 GDR marks per issue. With the change in the GDR in November 1989 "UB" took advantage of the changed political situation and opened up to the west. In this context, not only the external appearance changed, but also the content. In October 1990, the title of the magazine was changed to "Independent Fire Protection Newspaper" while keeping the now almost 40-year-old abbreviation "UB".

Together with the magazine “Der Feuerwehrkurier”, which was also published in Berlin from 1992 to the end of 2001, it was published by Huss-Medien GmbH until 2003 under the title “UB”. A relaunch took place from October 2003 and the magazine appeared with a new layout and under the name FEUERWEHR Retten Delete Bergen.

The magazine works with German state fire brigade associations and serves them as a monthly, official newsletter for members in:

  • Brandenburg (1992–1998 and from 2005),
  • Saxony (since 1993),
  • Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein (each from 2002) and Bremen (from 2003) as well
  • Thuringia (from 2008).

From 1986 to 1991 "The Fire Department Historian" appeared in "UB" as a separate newsletter. From 1991 to 2004 as an extra section in "UB". This made the FEUERWEHR Retten Delete Bergen the only German fire service magazine that regularly dealt with fire service history issues in a monthly supplement.

Special publications

  • "Our fire protection" published a data sheet collection in DIN A6 index card format on the basis of the system created in 1967 for fire fighting vehicles, devices and equipment. This data sheet collection was printed in two series on cover pages three and four (1967–1975 and 1982–1988).
  • In the meantime, another index card overview on the entire “Transport of dangerous goods” complex was published. With this, "UB" had created a well-structured brief overview as information material, which - without affecting the subscription price of the magazine - represented a good and quick reference work.
  • Between 1966 and 1975 there was a quarterly issue A (without a “scientific-technical supplement”) and an issue B (with a “scientific-technical supplement”). The labeling in issue A or issue B was made on the front page of the magazine.
  • In May 1990 the first edition of a “UB-Spezial” appeared. She reported on:
  • In 1992 another "UB-Spezial" was published, which was particularly dedicated to the topic of fire fighting technology. The background to this issue was the numerous technical innovations, especially for the fire departments in the new federal states.
  • In 2004 the current exam booklet "Truppmann / Truppführer" was created,
  • 2005 "thermal imaging cameras", the presentation and development of new technology for fire fighters and
  • 2010 “Thermal imaging cameras”, new models and new technology.
