As firefighters paramedics staff of the Austrian will fire brigade with about basic first aid designated beyond medical education. The presence of the fire brigade makes this necessary not only in the event of fires, but also in the event of traffic accidents and other technical assistance.

In rural or structurally weak areas, volunteer fire brigades often support the conventional rescue service by making their trained paramedics available as so-called first responder units.

In some places in Germany, too, this term is known for a fire brigade who is trained as a paramedic , but it is not a uniform term used across the board.

education

The training to become a fire brigade paramedic is not regulated by law and is therefore usually taken over by aid organizations. However, these have a largely uniform curriculum of around 80 teaching units of 45 minutes each.

During the training, the participants are specially trained in traffic accident management , resuscitation training with defibrillators and cooperation with the emergency services.

tasks

The most important tasks of the fire brigade paramedics include, among other things, the first aid of emergency patients until the regular rescue service arrives during fire service operations, as well as securing their own emergency services (mostly in cooperation with a rescue service unit acting as a medical surveillance (ambulance service)).
