Feyner master

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A woodcutter who worked in Swabia around 1480 is sometimes referred to as a Feyner master . The artist, who is not known by name, was given this emergency name after his work that he created for the Swabian book printer Conrad Feyner . He had his printing works first in Esslingen and then from 1479 in Urach .

The artistic woodcuts by the Feyner master and the often large initials copied from the copper engraving alphabet of the master ES make the books printed by Feyner important works of woodcut and printing of the 15th century. They show that the German incunable woodcut had reached its maturity at this time .
