fiber . material for feminism and pop culture is a magazine for feminist and pop culture topics. It appears twice a year with a print run of 800 and a length of 60 to 80 pages. It is published in Vienna and distributed in German-speaking countries .
editorial staff
fiber is published by a collective of women *. The articles are provided by various volunteer authors. All of the work is done on a voluntary basis, the project is financed by grants. Nylon acts as the sponsoring association . Association for the promotion and publication of feminist discourses . fiber calls for state subsidies in order to achieve “the end of self-exploitation through voluntary work” .
magazine
The first edition appeared in 2002. Each edition deals with a specific focus. The issue contains reports from a feminist perspective as well as extensive reviews of current books, sound carriers, films, magazines, journals and websites. In the middle section of each issue, artists can present their work under the Japanese name “Harappa”.
Other Projects
The fiber editorial team often organizes feminist pop culture events. The publication of each issue is celebrated with a “ release party” at which the magazine's content is presented. From September 28th to October 1st, 2006, the fiber editorial team hosted the Rampen fiber Festival. Based on the focus of the 10th edition “Music”, film screenings, discussions, workshops and concerts took place. Furthermore, fiber cooperates with other organizers and projects, such as brut or the VBKÖ .
Awards
In 2003, fiber received the Die Spitze Feder award, endowed with 1000 euros, for young, committed journalists, donated by the women's network media and the Green Women Vienna.
