Ficoline

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ficolines are a group of proteins of the complement system that bind N-acetylglucosamine as lectins .

properties

Depending on the protein domain , ficolines have structural homologies to collagen and fibronectin . Among the fibronectin-related protein domains, those of the ficoline have the highest mutation rate. Like the related collectins , e.g. B. Mannan- binding lectin (MBL), binds ficolin as a pattern recognition receptor to carbohydrates and then activates the lectin pathway of the complement system. Ficoline form multimers from twelve subunits (dodecamers) with a mass of 400 kilodaltons .

Three ficolines have been described in humans, FCN1 (synonym M-ficolin ), FCN2 (synonym L-ficolin ) and FCN3 (synonym H-ficolin ).
