Fiddaun Castle ( Irish Caisleán Fiodh Duin , dt. "Forest of the fort") is a tower house in the village Tubber in Irish County Galway near the border with County Clare . Listed as a National Monument, the castle is located between Lough Doo and Lough Aslaun .
history
Fiddaun Castle is a mid-16th century tower house in the Baronate Kiltartan of the former kingdom of Uí Fiachrach Aidhne , one of the O'Shaughnessy castles.
It was probably built at the behest of Sir Roger Gilla Dubh Ó Seachnasaigh ( O'Shaughnessy ) as he was the first nobleman to be recorded as living there and the castle was not known before his time.
Today the Tower House is best known for its well-preserved inner enclosure wall. It is on private property and is maintained by the Office of Public Works .
