Walk the World (full title: Fight Hunger: Walk the World ) is an annual event under the auspices of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) , which calls for the fight against world hunger around the world .

This campaign was initiated by employees of the logistics company TNT , who collected donations for the WFP during a march along the Great Wall of China in 2003 . A year later, TNT organized this fundraising event as a worldwide event in which over 40,000 people in around 70 countries walked five kilometers at 10 a.m. local time.

The event has been under the auspices of the WFP since 2005. In addition to collecting donations for the WFP's school feeding programs, the campaign is also intended to commemorate the first Millennium Development Goal , according to which the proportion of people suffering from hunger is to be halved by 2015.

On June 1st, 2008 the sixth march took place. In total, more than 250,000 people in over 70 countries took part in a total of 280 events this year. It raised over a million dollars - enough to feed 20,000 starving schoolchildren for a year. In Germany, numerous "walks" take place every year, including in Cologne and Berlin.

Walk the World 2010 will take place on Sunday June 6th.
