The ČD series 371 is an electric locomotive produced by the state-owned Czech railway company České dráhy , which was originally developed for cross-border traffic at 160 km / h on the Děčín – Dresden railway line. It emerged as a modernization from the 372 series .

history

In the early 1990s the locomotives of the series were 230 (DR) and 372 (CSD) commissioned. With them the cross-border electrical traffic between Děčín and Bad Schandau began . With the expansion of the Dresden – Berlin route to 160 km / h, the 372 series, with its top speed of 120 km / h, could no longer be used in high-quality passenger trains. In addition, the expansion of the Prague – Děčín railway to 160 km / h was planned. The locomotive's bogies were technically approved for speeds of up to 200 km / h, but the braking equipment and the gear ratio between the traction motor and drive wheel set were only designed for the approved speed of 120 km / h.

The locomotives were modernized by Škoda between 1996 and 2000 under the factory designation 76Em . A total of six machines were converted to the 371 series (numbers 001, 002, 003, 004, 005 and 015), with the original serial numbers being retained. However, the tests with the converted locomotives did not go as expected: On the Czech locomotives, the pantograph collector strips repeatedly broke , which resulted in great damage every time, as the broken pantograph tore down the contact line . Then the pantographs of the locomotives were converted to individually spring-loaded contact strips.

DB 180 001 / 371.201

Deutsche Bahn also had a locomotive, the 180 001 converted (type 80Em). During the 160 km / h test, a windscreen broke, so that the strange arrangement was made that the new maximum speed only applied to one driver's cab . A conversion of further locomotives was not carried out, also because the DB class 180 had been assigned to Railion by the rail reform and was mainly used for freight traffic. In 2002 the locomotive was z-provided due to lack of use . In 2003 it came to the Czech Railways as compensation for the 372.006, which was badly damaged in an accident in Germany, and was put back into service in 2004 as the 371.201 after being aligned with the other locomotives. Initially it continued to wear the traffic red DB livery, in 2009 it was the first locomotive of its series to be painted in the current ČD Najbrt design (light gray with light blue window frames and side walls and a dark blue stripe) and named "Gottlieb". On the occasion of InnoTrans 2014 in Berlin, the 371 201 brought a special train to Berlin and was painted in the Czech national colors.

commitment

The locomotives ran in front of the EuroCity trains between Praha hlavní nádraží and Dresden Hbf . With the pair of trains EC 258/259 the locomotives also came to Leipzig Hbf . As early as December 2015, ČD class 380 locomotives were to haul these trains between Prague, Berlin and Hamburg . However, DB Netz , the railway infrastructure company responsible for the German railways, initially refused unrestricted approval. For this reason, Siemens Vectron three-system locomotives have been used for the continuous traction of the Eurocity trains from Prague to Hamburg since December 2017 . The 371 locomotives have been hauling national trains on the Prague - Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště route since then . In summer and in Advent, the RE20 regional train between Ústí nad Labem and Dresden will continue to be hauled by a 371 locomotive. Between 2004 and 2007, the deployment between Berlin and Rzepin to Poland took place. There they were replaced by EU44 from PKP Intercity .
