The Roman Catholic branch church Thomasroith is located in the Thomasroith district of the Ottnang am Hausruck community in the Vöcklabruck district in Upper Austria . It is consecrated to Saint Barbara and belongs to the parish Ottnang am Hausruck in the dean's office Schwanenstadt in the diocese of Linz . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

In 1903 the people of Thomasroith expressed their desire to build a school chapel. After the management of Wolfsegg-Traunthaler Kohlenwerk AG refused to carry out the project, the Ottnang pastor was commissioned by the episcopal ordinariate to organize the construction of a church, which he did not. In 1905, Thomasroith's station manager, Josef Schmid, turned to the bishop with success on this matter. The church was built from 1906 to 1907 with substantial funding from Wolfsegg-Traunthaler-Kohlenwerk AG and consecrated on June 24, 1907 by Bishop Franz Maria Doppelbauer .

Architecture and equipment

The neo-baroque church building has neo-Gothic furnishings. In 1921 the Linz painter Andreas Strickner created the altarpiece “Miners' Bittgang zur St. Barbara ”, for which the artist Thomasroither mountain caps were the model.
