Andreas Strickner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas Strickner (born July 30, 1863 in Steinach am Brenner , † July 27, 1949 in Linz ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

The son of a master carpenter discovered his artistic talent during his military service. He then attended the state trade school in Innsbruck and from 1889 the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Johann Leonhard Raab . He then moved to Upper Austria , where he ran a studio in Urfahr from 1898 . He mainly created wall and ceiling paintings as well as altarpieces for churches in Upper Austria in a neo-baroque style that is clearly based on Austrian works of the 18th century. Strickner was probably the busiest church painter in Upper Austria at the beginning of the 20th century. In addition, he was increasingly active as a restorer , probably mainly from the late 1920s .
