Filip Totju
Filip Totju , actually Todor Todorow ( Bulgarian Филип Тотю ; * 1830 in Kilifarewo , † March 23, 1907 in Dwe Mogili ), was a Bulgarian freedom fighter.
Life
He was the leader of a free group fighting against the Ottoman Empire in the Stara Planina . He was persecuted by the Ottomans and therefore went to Romania in 1863 . In 1867 he returned to Bulgaria. Fighting broke out between his band and Ottoman troops, as a result of which his unit in the Veliko Tarnovo district was broken up. He managed to escape to Serbia . Later he stayed in Romania and Russia . In the Serbian-Ottoman War in 1876 he led a troop of Bulgarian volunteers.
The Filip-Totju-Nunatak in the Antarctic has been bearing his name since 2006 .
