The magazine was founded in 1992 by Karol Martesko-Fenster , Scott Macaulay and Holly Willis. Martesko-Fenster is also one of the co-founders of IndieWire .

The magazine is published by the IFP (Independent Filmmaker Project). It offers interviews, financing and sales information, festival reports and reports from filmmakers.
