Filofax

Filofax ™ is a registered trademark for schedule ring binders ( organizers ) from Filofax, Ltd. In English-speaking countries, Filofax is also used as a generic term for any schedule ring binder .

history

Since 1921 the British company Norman & Hill, Ltd. in London Zeitplaner sold - initially under the product name File of Facts , from which the catchy short name Filofax developed later, which was registered as a trademark in 1930. The Filofax is based on the American organizer system from the First World War and was first used in the British Army , then in churches and universities and soon enjoyed great popularity among journalists, doctors, lawyers and business people. In 1976 the company Norman & Hill was renamed Filofax, Ltd.

Today, classic organizers and scheduling systems such as Filofax have mostly been replaced by Personal Information Managers (PIM), which enable the electronic management of address, contact and appointment data and are mostly an integral part of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA).

Formats

As is common with other scheduling systems, Filofax uses largely non-standardized paper formats (both in terms of paper dimensions and perforation) with their own names. In addition, there are products for the standard A4 and A5 paper formats, whereby the A5 format is supported with a standard and its own perforation.
