Filton in southwest South Gloucestershire just outside Bristol

Filton is a suburb in the north-east of Bristol in south-west England with about 10,000 inhabitants. The origins of the place and the church in its center can be traced back to the 12th century. The name of the place goes back to the Old English combination of feleþe (hay) and tūn (farm, field).

The city is considered to be the center of the aviation industry. There is an Airbus plant and a Rolls-Royce engine plant. In 1910, the predecessor company of the Bristol Airplane Company was founded in Filton , which in turn is a predecessor of BAE Systems , which is also based on site . After the Second World War , the Bristol Airplane Company also gave birth to Bristol Cars , which produced small series sports cars here until 2010.

The British prototype 002 of the Concorde took off on its maiden flight from Filton Airport on April 9, 1969 . After the historically last flight of a Concorde, machine 216 with the aircraft registration G-BOAF has been on view in the local aviation museum since November 26, 2003.
