Financial Transaction Services
Financial Transaction Services , or FinTS for short , is a German standard for operating online banking . FinTS is a further development of the HBCI online banking standard . The purpose of FinTS is to standardize the connection between bank customers and the credit institution , especially with a view to multi- bank capability. The cooperative banks , savings banks , Commerzbank , Deutsche Bank and various other banks are currently supporting FinTS.
technical features
FinTS includes security procedures with an electronic signature ( chip card or self- generated RSA key diskette) as well as the PIN / TAN security procedure . FinTS sees itself as a modular system consisting of the underlying FinTS protocol, security procedures, business transactions and financial data formats. The various components are individually defined in their own specification volumes. The use of individual business transactions from HBCI version 2.0.1 is not bound to the version of the specification under which the business transaction was originally published. So z. For example, a business transaction from HBCI 2.2 can still be used under FinTS 3.0, provided that it and an external format that it has transported is still technically and legally valid.
It is characterized in particular by the introduction of the SECCOS- HBCI signature card as a possible uniform security medium. With this signature card, a legally binding declaration can be made in electronic business transactions. In addition, the security procedures have been adapted to the current state of the art, e.g. B. the key length has been increased (1024 to 2048 bits). The previous PIN / TAN extension was included in FinTS as an alternative security procedure to HBCI.
From a technical point of view, FinTS messages, which are transmitted between banks and customers via the Internet, are based on the XML language standard specified by the W3 consortium from version FinTS 4.0 . The consistent use of XML signatures , XML schemas and XML namespaces facilitates integration with other payment systems.
history
In 2002 the further development of HBCI was published as FinTS Version 3.0 . Compared to the HBCI predecessors, the FinTS 3.0 standard also contains the PIN / TAN security procedure and the use of signature cards. Under HBCI 2.2, the institutes of the DSGV had already developed and used association-specific business transactions under the name "HBCI extension PIN / TAN". These business transactions were then made available to the institutes of the other ZKA associations for their own use. In the FinTS 3.0 version, this procedure was finally included as an alternative security solution in the ZKA-wide FinTS standard.
In 2004, the FinTS 4.0 version was introduced. In this version, all internal data structures were completely converted to XML and XML schemas, HTTPS was used as the communication protocol and further new interfaces (e.g. WWW portals) were introduced.
Version 4.1 was published in November 2018 and version 4.0 was no longer developed.
