In the course of secularization in Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century, the financial sovereignty over the Werdenfelser Land passed from the Hochstift Freising to the Electorate of Bavaria in 1803 and the Werdenfels Rent Office was established. With the elevation of Bavaria to a kingdom in 1806, the name was changed to "Royal Bavarian Rent Office Werdenfels", which included the Garmisch district court.

In 1903 the office was named "Royal Rent Office". After the First World War, the "Garmisch Tax Office" was created, which has been called the "Garmisch-Partenkirchen Tax Office" since the two municipalities of Garmisch and Partenkirchen were merged in 1935.

At today's Dompfaffstrasse 5 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a new service building was built in 2008-2011 as a two-story low-rise building in timber frame construction, which brings together all the work areas of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen tax office. The modern building arouses national interest due to the combination of wood construction and architecture of the 21st century.
