The Fine Arts Department ( Thai : กรม ศิลปากร - RTGS : Krom Sinlapakon ) is an authority in Thailand . It is subordinate to the Ministry of Education and is roughly comparable to the Ministry of Education .

history

Before 1911, the departments of archeology, history, literature, drama, music, visual arts, archiving and museums were subordinate to different ministries. King Vajiravudh (Rama VI.) Decreed that a separate ministry should be responsible for the culture of the entire Thai nation. The Fine Arts Department was established through the announcement in the Royal Gazette on March 27, 1911.

During the reign of King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) , the department was dissolved between 1926 and 1933 because the government could not provide enough funds.

tasks

The Fine Arts Department is designed to “create, preserve, promote and teach the knowledge, wisdom and culture of the nation”. This is to be done in the fields of archeology, literature, historical research, traditional customs, architecture, drama and the visual arts, with monuments and through museums, the National Library and the National Archives. The Department is the highest competent authority for all issues of monument protection and monument preservation in Thailand .

Since religion is seen as a part of Thai culture, the Religions Department should promote religious activities of all denominations as well as spread ethical and moral values ​​in the public.
