The Finnenbahn (also: Finnbahn) is a specially designed route, which is intended for cross-country training as well as for joggers and is also used by cyclists . The specialty of the fin track is the particularly soft, about 10 centimeter thick floor covering made of sawdust , sawdust , wood chips, tree bark or bark mulch, which is attached over a drainage layer made of sand, gravel or crushed stone. The soft covering cushions the footsteps while running and protects the joints . Most of the Finnish tracks are designed as a circular route .

The track was developed by Finnish runners for endurance training in order to have a joint-friendly alternative to running on the tartan track . Operators appreciate Finnish railways because they are easy and cheap to set up and maintain.
