Finns in Switzerland
Finns in Switzerland are called Finnish migrants and their descendants. They mostly speak Finnish as their mother tongue , but also German , French or Italian as a second language.
According to various estimates, there are around 7,000 Finns living in Switzerland, of whom 4,000 are first-generation immigrants and 3,000 are second-generation immigrants. Most of the first generation immigrants are women born in the 1940s to 1960s, many of whom immigrated from 1960 to 1970. Most Finns in Switzerland live in the Canton of Zurich .
The Swiss Association of Friends of Finland (SVFF) has been operating with the Suomen Sanomat newspaper since 1946 , which was later renamed Finland Magazine . This newspaper appears twice a year. The first Finnish schools in Switzerland opened in Bern and Zurich in 1982 . The Sveitsin suomenkielinen kirkollinen toiminta (SSKT), on the other hand, organizes church activities in the Finnish language throughout Switzerland.
