from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fiona O'Malley (born January 19, 1968 ) is an Irish politician and since 2007 Senator in the Seanad Éireann .

O'Malley was elected to the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in 1999 and was there until September 2003, as she was elected to the Progressive Democrats in the 29th Dáil Éireann in 2002 and had to give up her seat on the County Council because of it. In the elections for the 30th Dáil Éireann she failed to defend her seat.

On August 3, 2007, O'Malley was nominated by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern as senator in the 23rd Seanad Éireann and was thus one of the two senators of the Progressive Democrats alongside Ciarán Cannon . After the party decided to dissolve itself on November 8, 2008, Cannon moved to Fine Gael in March 2009 . O'Malley has been an Independent in the Senate since 2009.

Fiona O'Malley is the daughter of Desmond O'Malley , the party founder and former party leader of the Progressive Democrats.
