The Fioretti di San Francesco or Blümlein des St Francis are a Florilegium, divided into 53 short chapters, on the life of Francis of Assisi . The anonymous Italian text of the late 14th century, probably written by a Tuscan author, is a version of the Latin Actus beati Francisci et sociorum eius , the oldest surviving manuscript of which dates from 1390. The Franciscan historian Lukas Wadding (17th century) ascribes the text Fra Ugolino da Santa Maria , whose name appears three times in the Actus .

Since they were created long after the death of Francis of Assisi, the fioretti are generally not considered an important source for his life, but have become the most popular collection of legends for a wide audience. In the 19th and 20th centuries in particular, the Fioretti were widespread as a devotional book and, with their sweet, inner and romantically transfigured style, they had the image of Francis in the population, but also Felix Timmerman's Franziskusroman (1932) and Roberto Rossellini's film “Franziskus , the juggler of God ”(1950) strongly influenced.
