Firefly is a subsidiary of Hertz car rental . Hertz developed the new brand to replace Advantage Rent a Car . After the acquisition of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group , Advantage Rent a Car had to be sold.
The company's target group are primarily holidaymakers in France , Italy and Spain . The first branches were opened in Europe in March 2013. The American branches followed in September 2013. In August 2014 Firefly opened the first branch in the Middle East at Dubai Airport in the United Arab Emirates and in September 2014 in Australia . In January 2015 there were more than 100 locations in 13 countries. Most of the car rental contracts at Firefly come about through agents , while Hertz does direct business with customers.
