life and work

Firmin Le Ver (Latin: Firminus Verris ) was the prior of the Carthusian monastery of Saint-Honoré in Thuison near Abbeville. Apparently for his monastery he created the first Latin-French dictionary, the author of which is known, from 1420 to 1440. With 45,000 entries explained in Latin and French (which makes a total of 540,000 running words, one sixth of which are French), it is extremely rich. The manuscript was published in 1994.
